What made you try Metabolic Balance®?
I was in year 11 at high school, and sports lessons were always very frustrating for me. Volleyball, soccer, every sport was impossible, and poor grades were inevitable. After a short time at a sport, I always got out of breath, ran out of energy, and had no desire to carry on. Physical education was just awful! I recall it as if it were yesterday. Then one day, my sports teacher took me to one side to speak to me. He said he was convinced I could do sports, keep up with the others, and even get good grades, but I was currently just too heavy: “I couldn’t play sports either if I weighed an extra 45 lb,” he said. My teacher then asked me whether I had heard of Metabolic Balance®. I hadn’t. He said he and his whole family were doing the program and were really happy with it. He said I should look for a coach in the area. His talk really inspired me, so I asked my parents whether they had heard of it. By coincidence, my mother’s naturopath was also a Metabolic Balance® coach, and so I had my first consultation with him and a blood test.
How did you feel before Metabolic Balance®?
I had been overweight since primary school. To be honest, I was really big, and the older I got, the heavier I became. Eventually, I weighed around 220 lb. After my exams, I started training to be a chef, which meant lots of irregularly scheduled and unhealthy meals, as well as quite a bit of stress and frustration. After one year, I quit the training course weighing around 250 lb.
Why Metabolic Balance®?
My mom had known my coach for a long time, and I trusted my sports teacher and my coach. I was so motivated by the two of them, as well as by friends and family, that I didn’t have to think about it for very long. I jumped at the program.
What was your experience with the program?
In November 2010, just two weeks after my first consultation, I was holding my nutrition plan in my hand and ready to start. The first few days were a huge change for me. Drinking so much water, eating only 3 meals a day, weighing everything to the ounce, the new rules, and the strict timings were challenges, but it didn't take long to get the hang of it. The weight just melted away, and the less I weighed, the more motivation I gained to keep going. Even Christmas was child’s play despite the restrictions. By mid February, I had lost more than 33 lb and had even started to like doing sports again—even in my free time. Half a year later, and still in phase 2 of Metabolic Balance®, I had lost about 55 lb and had reached my first goal.
What is the biggest change since starting Metabolic Balance®?
There is no one big change, because so many changes have happened. Thanks to Metabolic Balance®, I am wearing clothing size M instead of XXL. I am able to jog longer distances, and my confidence has increased 100%. I go to the gym every day to lift weights and participate in endurance sports. A milestone for me was running in the B2RUN event in Munich together with the Metabolic Balance® team. The company Web site had announced the event’s competition, so I decided to enter—even without much hope of winning. Surprisingly, I won the prize! This was an amazing and uplifting experience.
